When dating someone, when should I tell them I have a child?
Q. I was out on a date with a woman and we really hit it off. We had a nice meal and a magical conversation. While I was walking her to her car, we went around the block a couple extra times just to talk more. That week we had some long conversations on the phone that went great. When I let her know I have a child, she shut down and lost interest. She said I should have told her sooner. How do I get to know someone and let them know me without blowing my shot?
A. How many hours did you spend with this woman and not tell her a major detail about your life? You couldn’t casually weave it in? It is part of who you are, Richard! You were deceptive in your presentation of yourself. It’s quite possible she lost interest because of your dishonesty, not because of your child!
When dating, it is imperative that you be your true, authentic self. When you are ready to make a commitment with the right kind of woman, I’m confident you’ll find one who would be happy to accept both you and your child into her life.

- You’re a father. Be who you are; don’t be deceptive.
